Steve Aoki’s Neon Dream is a casino game developed for GameCo, LLC. Steve Aoki is a popular musician and producer, so I was excited to have the opportunity to participate in this project.

The title was already well into development when I joined the team. I still managed to contribute quite a bit, from in-game 3D assets to designing art for the game cabinet.

One of my first tasks was to recreate Mr. Aoki’s turntables in 3D Studio Max for use in an interactive bonus game.

The turntables were my only contribution to the in-game screenshot below.

I created this art for the front of the game cabinet. I made the Las Vegas skyline in the background because Mr. Aoki lives in Vegas, plus it was a natural fit for the neon aesthetic that we were going for.

I also modeled and textured the 3D assets for the cake, stopwatch and PA cabinet. After implementing them into the Unity engine, they were used in-game as power-ups and obstacles.

This animated attract screen was displayed on the top monitor of the game when not in use. We wanted something that would stand out on a casino floor, so it was deliberately very loud. In Attract Mode, the game randomly cycled through the soundtrack. With that in mind, I made the animation loop seamlessly in order to match the bpm of the soundtrack and keep the animation in sync with the music.

The background equalizer was made in After Effects and composited behind the 3D foreground elements that I put together in 3D Studio Max.
